Just a quick heads up- They are SO hoping that we are mindlessly getting ready for the big holiday weekend.
Stuffed into the senate version of the so-called nauseatingly named “Big Beautiful Bill,” is the pending liquidation of pristine public BLM lands and United States Forests across eleven western states for housing development and resource exploitation.
The bill does not specify which public lands would be sold, but it also does not include any public process that would allow local leaders, advocates or residents — the people who know these lands best — to provide any input in the decision.
“It bypasses existing protections, and it sells off huge swaths of land without proper process to get public input,” said Katie Hawkins, California program director for Outdoor Alliance. “That is very different from anything that we have ever experienced before.”
Instead, the bill calls for both federal agencies to sell or transfer up to 3 million acres of public land. The bill could potentially impact 11 states across the West — with a notable exception made for Montana.
Here is the map
The GOP is trying to pass the bill by the fourth of July. It’s going back to the house for reconciliation, so if you live in the west it is likely that you will be impacted by this should it pass. In my estimation, this would be a national tragedy.
You can go to wilderness.org to zoom in on the map to see how it may impact your immediate area and to reach out to senators.
How about we cut all corporate subsidies and lower defense appropriations first?
I'm a believer in "Dems evil; Repubs stupid" but this bad policy has full Republican Senatorial support. One of the least awful, Mike Lee, recently teeeted proudly about it.
Yuck.
